Boating has become a very popular activity. With this the diversity has also increased with new ways to enjoy the water.
Motor Boating
Motor boats are also commonly called power boats. Motor boats are powered by an internal combustion engine which can be mounted inboard or outboard depending on the size and shape of the boat. Inboard motors have everything except the propeller housed inside the craft. An outboard motor has the motor and propeller mounted outside on the back of the boat. The variation used really depends on that particular boats design and intended usage.
Personal watercraft are not generally considered to be motor boats although they are powered by an inboard motor. PWC are normally in a class of their own and they have seen an enormous burst in popularity over the last ten years or so. The combination of the design of the hull and power to weight ratio allow power boats to move very quickly through the water.
Yachting
Yachts are boats which are purely designed for pleasure while cruising or travelling. They feature many amenities not found on smaller boats. Yachts are usually power by a motor like motor boats but can also be found with sails.

With the increasing technological capabilities of boat manufacturers and the willingness of corporations to sponsor events, boat racing has become incredibly popular. Many events are now televised and attract large audiences at events around the world. With the unbelievably high speeds that racing boats attain many accidents and injuries occur.
Sail Boating
Sailboats are powered by the movement of the wind. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, thus they also have different variations of sails.
